Role Overview

The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting, plasma cutting, MIG and/or TIG welding equipment. This position is assigned to the Benetreu Company, a member of the Western Shelter Family of Companies, located in Springfield, Oregon and will report to the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
• Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
• Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
• Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
• Complete all tasks and assignments in a timely manner.
• Maintain sufficient output to keep pace with production.
• Assist in improving work instructions and processes.
• Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attend periodic safety meetings as required; recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Interact with coworkers in a positive and encouraging manner.
• Supports 6S/workplace organization goals of the department and offers suggestions and makes improvements that assist in achieving the departments performance board metrics.
• Keep workplace clean, tidy and in good condition.
• Return all tools and equipment to their designated spot after each use.
• Regularly inspect, clean equipment, notify supervisor and/or facilities maintenance immediately of machines or equipment needing repair or maintenance, and take any damaged or worn tools out of service.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
• Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
• Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
• Ability to lift/ move up to 30 pounds of material without assistance.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks such as pulling, lifting, and carrying materials.
• Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced at close range

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Precision fabrication and welding experience required
• Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
• Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
• Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
• Ability to calculate cut size and read calipers, micrometers, height gauges, scales, etc.
