Backend Engineer, Community

Whatnot is a livestream shopping platform and marketplace looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build the social aspects that foster lasting connections between sellers and buyers.

Skills

Proven track record in designing and building highly scalable, maintainable systems
Experience in real-time systems such as chat, auctions, and multiplayer games
Product instinct translating user needs to technical solutions
Strong problem-solving skills
Team leadership and mentorship abilities
Ability to own projects from inception to production

Responsibilities

Build social aspects of the platform to foster lasting connections between sellers and buyers
Own end-to-end product experiences including live shows, chatting, messaging, user profiles, tipping, and social sharing
Design and build highly scalable, maintainable systems in multiple languages
Mentor others and foster an inclusive, supportive team culture
Own projects holistically from inception to production and beyond

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
