Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Hospital Information Systems (HIS), the Director, HIS Project Control, will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the integrated project schedule and budget, in addition to managing the integrated issue, risk, and decision logs, to support the implementation of the HIS.

Overseeing the project management, human resources and infrastructure portfolios, they will provide strategic oversight and support the implementation of the HIS. Leading a team of experts, the Director will manage the planning, development and execution of the HIS infrastructure configuration and technical readiness, including the device strategy planning and rollout.

The Director will work closely with their HIS colleagues, as well as business partners for financial reporting, human resources, communications and overall project progress reporting. Collaboratively, the Director will work extensively across departments, partnering with clinical operations and technical teams to align digital initiatives with the organization’s broader goals. The Director will ensure that solutions are developed with a focus on the clinicians' perspective.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and/or participate in organizing and executing the work of implementing the HIS renewal project
  • Develop strategies that encompass the adoption of digital health technology and provide data-driven insights to enhance patient care and outcomes, operational efficiency, and clinician experience
  • Lead a team of 25+ staff in the execution of approximately 15 complex and inter-dependant work streams within the project; ensure that teams work together, share information and complete tasks on time and within budget
  • Monitor and communicate overall project progress through control tools such as schedule management, budget management and resource management that are provided through status reports, presentations, risk, issue, action and decision logs as well as meeting minutes
  • Provide advanced risk management by consulting with various levels of the organization to document risks and issues and organizational impacts as well as identifying resolution options to present to leadership for decisions
  • Work closely with the HIS leadership team to evaluate and prioritize project priorities
  • Liaise with other leaders within the project to ensure that configuration decisions are made on time, adequately documented and then implemented into the HIS configuration
  • Take senior accountability for HIS infrastructure configuration and device strategy, working with vendors, contractors, leaders and staff to ensure a successful execution
  • Collaborate extensively with various departments, including clinical operations, quality, professional practice and IT, to align digital initiatives with broader organizational goals
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for innovation, optimization, and adoption
  • Build a strong team that respects equity, inclusion, diversity, and anti-racism, including hiring, orienting, training, coaching staff, determining performance standards, conducting performance reviews, and managing performance and employee relations matters

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in health discipline, health care administration, business or relevant field
  • Master’s degree in business, project management, health administration or another related field preferred
  • At least ten years experience managing and/or directing any of the following functions: applications and integration architecture, IT business analysis; health care IT project implementation and project delivery; clinical information integration and applications management
  • At least ten years experience working in the Canadian health care industry
  • Minimum of five years experience implementing and operating modern HIS platforms
  • Project Management Professional certification is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in IT-enabled projects involving complex change management, IT and project governance processes and financial management
  • Very high political acuity, strategic acumen, ability to influence and motivate others and significant experience leading large-scale system change in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines

Additional Information

Hours: Currently days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

This is a Hybrid role. Roles that function remotely, but require essential, regular onsite weekly work.

Annual Salary:
Minimum:  $146,445.50
Maximum: $183,046.50
