Interpreter Mentoring & Advancement Program (IMAP)

The Interpreter Mentoring & Advancement Program (IMAP) is seeking experienced and certified sign language interpreters to serve as mentors to emerging professionals. This role is ideal for dedicated interpreters who are passionate about supporting the growth and development of mentees through structured weekly meetings, skills feedback, and professional guidance.

Mentors will work under contract and be compensated with a stipend per assigned mentee. This position is flexible, remote-friendly, and suited for interpreters looking to give back to the field through meaningful one-on-one mentoring relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet weekly with each assigned mentee (approximately 1 hour/week).
  • Provide structured feedback on interpreting samples (e.g., via GoReact, Zoom recordings, or live observations).
  • Guide mentees in setting and achieving short- and long-term professional goals.
  • Support mentees in developing ethical decision-making, language fluency, and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with IMAP program leadership to monitor progress and report concerns or highlights.
  • Maintain clear records of meetings, goals, and outcomes.
  • Attend occasional mentor check-in sessions or training updates (remote).

Position Requirements:

  • National certification (RID, BEI, or equivalent) in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of interpreting experience.
  • Prior mentoring, teaching, or supervising experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and feedback skills.
  • Ability to support diverse learners in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.
  • Access to reliable internet and tools for virtual meetings and feedback.

Work Schedule:

Meet weekly with each assigned mentee (approximately one hour/week).
