We work closely with various teams to ensure that we are delivering offerings in a way that is consistent with our contractual commitments, legal requirements, and core values.About The RoleWorkday seeks a highly motivated Product Counsel to support Workday’s products and technology organization. This is a high growth area and the ideal candidate is a confident self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced and high-energy environment, and who can prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with agility and efficiency. Strong candidates will have knowledge of and experience in counseling product and technology teams in functional areas including artificial intelligence and hyperscale computing. Primary responsibilities will be to provide strategic, tactical, and execution-level legal support to Workday’s product & technology teams for all phases of product development and technology initiatives, and to be a resource for the larger legal and compliance team.This position will interact closely with business clients across the organization and requires working in cross-functional teams. The right candidate demonstrates integrity, a sense of humor, and the ability to be highly collaborative and results oriented. You must be a creative problem solver with exceptional judgment and strong critical thinking.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesPartner with the products and technology organization to understand the strategic needs and business goals.Counsel and guide product management, development, engineering, support and marketing teams on a variety of issues, including commercial terms, privacy, data protection, and global regulatory compliance matters throughout the entire product development lifecycle.Draft clear and concise agreements, public-facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use and other external documents.Lead complex technology transactions by negotiating and drafting commercial agreements related to third party products and services.Review and interpret third party terms to guide the products and technology team and ensure organizational compliance.Provide pragmatic, day-to-day strategic advice that takes into account legal risk and product adoption issues to advance business goals and initiatives.Help develop commercial go-to-market strategy for new products.About YouBasic QualificationsJ.D. Degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 state bar12+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house/public sector legal departmentMinimum 5+ years of experience with a combination of general transactional experience and product counseling.Additional QualificationsExcellent contract negotiation and drafting skills, comfortable and adept at teaming with leadership in fast-paced customer-facing transactions, preferably with enterprise software/SaaS experience.Ability to influence, advise, and advocate for company interests.Exceptional written and oral communication skills, effective communication with legal and non-legal audiences.Exercises superior judgment in-tune with complex needs of an organization to advise in an effective and creative manner.Cultivates internal and external relationships and leads project collaboration with cross-functional networks.Utilizes strategic focus, critical thinking and a problem solving approach.Proactively identifies and analyzes legal risks and exercises good judgment and effective techniques to reach solutions with little guidance.Manages legal projects using strong organizational and project management skills; uses best practices and lean principles for process improvements.Willingness to roll up your sleeves to drive creative solutions, build efficient processes, and make sound decisions.Workday Pay Transparency StatementThe annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
