Director of Labor-Management Relations is a key leadership role responsible for fostering and maintaining cooperative, impactful partnerships between labor and management within Resilient Organizations Initiative-participating organizations. This impartial position is crucial in ensuring the success of our innovative approach to labor relations in the social justice sector.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Negotiation Support
- Independently score and evaluate labor-management proposals
- Provide coaching and training to negotiation teams from both labor and management sides
- Offer impartial guidance to ensure fair and productive bargaining processes
- Identify clear and effective CBA templates and model language and support labor and management in developing agreements.
Partnership Development:
- Forge and build cooperative, impactful partnership ethos into bargaining processes and workplaces
- Facilitate and improve Joint Labor-Management Committee culture and practices
- Develop strategies to enhance collaboration between union representatives and management
- Policy and Process Improvement and implementation:
- Continuously evaluate and refine ROI's labor-management policies and procedures
- Collaborate with other ROI leaders to ensure alignment of labor-management practices with overall organizational goals
- Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of labor-management initiatives
- Support the implementation of collective bargaining agreements with the formulation of effective policies and procedure that bring our CBAs to life
- Disseminate best practices for cooperative implementation
- Collaborate with others to develop a library of effective, progressive, labor friendly policies and practices that is accessible to the entire sector
Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including union leaders, management representatives, and ROI partner organizations
- Regularly report on labor-management initiatives to the ROI leadership team and board
- Act as an ambassador for ROI's innovative approach to labor relations in the social justice sector
Support California WFP
- Serve as senior advisor focused on fundraising
- Support California State Director in developing an affiliate strategy and navigating state committee politics
- Helping think through CAWFP Staffing Structure
Skills & Qualifications- At least five years of experience in labor relations, with a proven track record of fostering cooperative partnerships
- Strong understanding of labor law, collective bargaining processes, and conflict resolution techniques
- Demonstrated ability to remain impartial and build trust with both labor and management stakeholders
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Advanced degree in labor relations, organizational development, or a related field preferred
- Passion for social justice and alignment with ROI's mission and values
- Experience in the nonprofit or social justice sector is a plus
- Compensation: The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale, which takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience. The final salary offer will fall into one of the following ranges depending on where you live:
- National Market (most locations): $88,000 to $109,000
- High Market (e.g., Denver, Portland, Sacramento): $101,000 to $120,000
- Very High Market (e.g., New York, San Francisco, Boston): $110,000 to $130,000

- Location and Travel: You may work remotely from anywhere in the United States. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings a few times per year.
- Schedule: The position is full time and permanent.
- Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a nonmanagerial role eligible to join WFP's staff bargaining unit after six months of employment. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
