WRC - Adventure Program's Student Staff

Job Summary


Our WRC - Adventure Programs Staff will help run our indoor climbing wall here in the WRC. Staff will get on the job training on how to belay, inspect equipment, how to set up the ropes, how to manage the wall etc. While previous climbing/belaying experience is a plus, it is not a requirement. All new Adventure Program staff that work the WRC climbing wall will receive on the job training on how to properly work at our wall!

Staff will also be able to assist with our outdoor trips and workshops (if proper prior training requirements have been met). However, these will be on a case-by-case basis.

Staff will also need a First Aid/CPR certification, the certification can be offered at the WRC after the initial hire date.

Responsibilities


Belay participants - 50%
Staff will greet participants pulling them in to climb, assist participants checking in, assist participants with climbing shoes & harness, and spot or belay participants while they are at the wall.

Setting up/taking down the Climbing Wall ropes and equipment - 15%
Staff will inspect, count, and log all equipment. Then staff will set up the wall. After the shift they will take it down, count, and log equipment and usage.

Customer Service - 15%
Being able to provide the best possible experience to both first time climbers and our regular climbers. Helping ensure that our climbers have a safe and positive experience every time they come to the WRC Climbing Wall!

Programming - 5%
Staff will help come up with and implement celebratory and instructional programming at the wall.

Social Media - 5%
Staff will help make posts that encourage others to come to the climbing wall.

Assisting with Outdoor Trips and Workshops - TBD
Assisting on trips and workshops will be on a case-by-case basis depending on the staff's qualifications and availability. Some won't ever help with trips/workshops. Some staff will primarily work with trips/workshops while others will do a bit of both.

Friendly, engaging, and focused

Enrolled at GC

Preferred Qualifications


Additional Preferred Qualifications
First Aid/CPR cert (or higher)

Preferred Experience
Preferred belaying experience with the B.U.S method, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


ABILITIES
Must be able to tie knots and stand/belay for periods of time

SKILLS
Needs to be able to follow instructions on how to set up the climbing wall, and all other skills covered in the trainings
