The selected candidate will join a diverse and highly skilled team engaged in a wide range of electron microscopy applications in the biological sciences. Daily responsibilities include working with investigators on various EM/Cryo-EM projects, assisting with experimental design, sample preparation, image data collection, and image processing and analysis.The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, capable of delivering high-quality results promptly, eager to learn advanced EM techniques, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. This full-time, budgeted position offers ample opportunities for professional growth and development. The incumbent will report directly to the Core Facility Director.Job Responsibilities For This Role IncludePrepare biological samples for transmission and scanning electron microscopy, including chemical fixation, resin embedding, ultramicrotome sectioning, and image acquisition.Train students and postdoctoral researchers on the use of electron microscopes and associated equipment.Learn advanced EM techniques, such as electron tomography, Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy (FIB-SEM) for 3D volume imaging, high-pressure freezing, and immuno-EM procedures.Perform additional tasks as needed.Essential Duties• User Training: Provide technical training and guidance to users of the research core. 2. Experiment Support: Contribute to experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting for research projects using established protocols within the research core. 3. Facility/Instrument Support: Support research core operations, including specialized equipment maintenance. 4. Technique Development: Optimize experimental protocols and workflows. 5. Data Analysis/Interpretation: Analyze and interpret complex scientific data. 6. Equipment Procurement: Assist in the installation and maintenance of specialized research core equipment. 7. Professional Development: Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and advancements in the field. Participate in professional development activities and scientific conferences. 8. Scientific Participation: Collect and analyze scientific data for manuscript preparation and grant proposals. 9. Vendor Relations: Maintains vendor relationships, evaluates products, and collaborates with purchasing for timely procurement of laboratory supplies. 10. Education and Outreach: Participate in education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events, etc.Required Education And ExperienceBachelor’s degree in a related discipline and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.Required Skill/Ability 1Proven experience in sample preparation for microscopy and familiarity with the research lab setting.Required Skill/Ability 2Familiar with cell biology and biological imaging techniques.Required Skill/Ability 3Ability to produce high-quality work and deliver results in a timely fashion.Required Skill/Ability 4Reliability to work independently and support other team members.Preferred Education, Experience And SkillsAdvanced degree in a relevant technical discipline. Proven experience in core facility operations or providing scientific support services. Strong knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, and experience with biological electron microscopy.
