Programming is held in several school districts. This position is open to Certified teachers who are currently employed and maintain employment in a hosting school district.
Position Summary:
Responsible for planning, development, and implementation of classrooms activities. The Academic Teacher is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental well-being in the program. Safety and the wellbeing of the children is a first priority.

Essential Functions:
Implements weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s needs, interests, and developmental levels in the classroom.
Assist children with homework and other academic activities.
Works cooperatively with staff and partners YMCA leadership and other classroom staff.
Documents attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines, and incidents for each child in the classroom and communicates to ensure children are accounted for.
Is responsible for all aspects of the appearance and management of their classroom/designated program/outside areas. Maintains the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment in the room in a neat and orderly fashion. Returns used spaces better than found.
Reports any broken or unsafe toys or equipment and properly disinfects materials and equipment on a regular basis in accordance with the state regulations.
Conducts the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines & corresponding Ohio Department of Education (ODE) guidelines.
Attends in-service training events as required by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) regulations, continued professional development through community involvement, reading and/or further education.
Remains familiar with the National After School Association (NAA) accreditation requirements and completes required documentation in accordance with Center requirements.
Effectively communicates verbal and written reports to the parents and conducts parent/teacher conferences in accordance with Center guidelines.
Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures.
Handles discipline promptly and in accordance with the stated discipline policy. Documents and reports to the supervisor any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff, or parent.
Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the childcare and program area.
Maintains appropriate adult/child ratio.
Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
Completes and maintains appropriate records, including incident reports, administration of medication, health history, etc.
Protects confidential information regarding program participants, families, and staff members.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university required.
Must be a Certified Teacher for the State of Ohio.
Two years’ experience working in childhood field strongly preferred.
