Human Resources Intern, Administration (NCS) - BCIT

THIS IS A NON-CIVIL SERVICE POSITION

POSTING DATE: 4/4/2025

SALARY RANGE: $15.00 - $28.80 Hourly

BACKGROUND CHECK

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Provide opportunities for secondary/higher education students to serve an Human Capital Intern. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a specialized area of Human Resources. Learn the HR policies and procedures in a government setting. Gain professional experience partnering with departments to achieve business goals, specifically in job profile, recruiting, onboarding, compensation and classification.​

Interns will obtain feedback from their managers throughout the program, as well as assistance with managing roadblocks along the way. Beginning with virtual orientation, interns will benefit from various aspects of BCIT’s culture. ​​​

  • 1 on 1 meetings with the Department Intern Manager​
  • Weekly Chew & Chats Fridays (virtual games & exciting ice breakers)​
  • BCIT All Staff Meetings
  • Learning Opportunities in Field of Interest (When Available)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of employee engagement programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in conducting employee surveys, analyzing feedback, and proposing actionable recommendations.
  • Help organize team-building activities, recognition programs, and events that foster a positive work environment.

Sourcing & Recruitment:

  • You will assist with recruitment efforts, including job postings, scheduling interviews, and onboarding
  • Partners with human resources team as assigned.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers with judgment and tact.
  • Contributes to a work atmosphere in a manner which is positive, enthusiastic, respectful and courteous.

Compensation & Salary Review:

  • Assist in the review and development of job descriptions.
  • Assist in the creation and research of new class titles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior.
  • Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution.
  • Graduated from a Maryland high school but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution.
  • Graduated from a Maryland high school and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program.
  • Available to work a minimum of 20 per week.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Desire to learn Human Resource Functions
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and strong work ethics
