The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as an Executive Officer. The Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and operational support to senior executives and will be instrumental in advancing the department’s mission to maintain safe and secure correctional facilities while fostering rehabilitative opportunities for individuals in custody.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on policy, operations, and agency initiatives.
- Oversee strategic planning, policy development, and performance management efforts across multiple divisions.
- Coordinate interagency collaborations and represent DOC in citywide emergency management and public safety initiatives.
- Supervise and manage high-level projects related to compliance, operational reform, and efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to city, state, and federal regulations governing correctional operations.
- Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations for agency leadership and external stakeholders.
- Spearhead crisis response and emergency management activities across DOC facilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in public administration, law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field, with at least three (3) years in a supervisor or managerial role.
- Strong understanding of correctional policies, security protocols, and criminal justice system operations.
- Demonstrated experience in crisis management, emergency preparedness, or operational leadership.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, advocacy groups, and community organizations.
- Proficiency in data analysis, project management, and performance measurement tools.
- Master’s degree in public administration, criminal justice, law, or a related field.
- Experience in large-scale operational leadership within a correctional or law enforcement agency.
- Knowledge of New York City government operations and policies.
- Experience managing compliance with court orders, audits, or federal mandates.
EXECUTIVE PROGRAM SPECIALIST ( - 13382
1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years full- time satisfactory professional experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position, including eighteen months of experience in a managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” above; however, all candidates must possess eighteen months of experience in a managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity as described above.
