GQ is looking for a digital-first associate editor to help expand our style content online. The editor will be responsible for planning, assigning, and editing a mix of long-lead guides and service content; quick-turnaround stories responding to trends and discourse; and daily style and fashion news.
The ideal candidate will be highly knowledgeable about men’s style and fashion, deeply in tune with the online conversation about style, and passionate about creating useful and authoritative guidance on how men should dress today. They should have expertise in SEO and experience managing writers, working to a budget, and rigorously maintaining a publishing schedule. Eye for (and contacts with) talented up-and-coming and established writers a major plus. This role will report to the Senior Style Editor.
Daily responsibilities may include:
Pitch, assign and edit daily and long-lead style stories for GQ.com —approximately 10-15 per week, subject to change
Bring new freelance writers into the GQ fold
Help maintain a style editorial calendar with input from audience development team
Coordinate with web, video, social, and print editorial teams on style coverage
Collaborate with social and audience development departments to create multi-platform content
Liaise with art, visuals, copy, research, and web production departments
Participate in and contribute to broader editorial brainstorms and ideas meetings

Desired Skills & Qualifications:
3+ years experience as an editor focusing on fashion and/or style
Experience recruiting, assigning, and editing freelance writers
Excellent line editing skills and enthusiasm for working closely with top editors to perfect stories
Successful track record of working across copy, research, art, photo, production and social departments to produce and promote stories efficiently
Fluency working in a fast-paced digital media environment, including managing freelancer writers and budget, writing headline and meta copy, publishing in a CMS, and using content-tracking systems like Airtable
Experience collaborating with video teams and/or appearing in social video content, a plus
The expected base salary range for this position is from $68,500-$85,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
