Engineering Co-Op Student

Job Description:

Position Summary:

Cooper Standard is looking to partner with students seeking a mechanical or chemical engineering degree. Candidates should possess technical competence, a solid work ethic, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Students will participate in our rotational program which includes exposure to rubber and plastic sealing, fuel / brake lines, fluid transfer hoses and “hands-on” experience in labs and other facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product development tasks to include any of the following: writing and verifying specifications, maintaining product/process documentation, testing processes, equipment, raw materials and product development, and/or validation of equipment and processes
  • May assist in the innovation and creations of concepts for new products, processes, and test methods
  • Preparation of standard reports/documentation to communicate results to a technical community
  • Identifies areas for improvement, suggests solutions, and submits ideas
  • Works closely with technical, business,  engineering, and manufacturing personnel
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed and directed by manager
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other that those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with an overall grade point average of 2.8 or better
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be detail orientated and possess excellent follow-up skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Ability to gather and analyze data to identify and solve problems
  • Must display maturity and a high level of professionalism

  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
