Freelance Market Researcher and Market Researcher, Jamshedpur

This position is for self-employed contract work only.

Euromonitor International seeks a self-employed researcher to help with upcoming project in Jamshedpur, India. Please note that we require the analyst to either reside in Jamshedpur or be willing to travel to Jamshedpur for the project.Please find the task details below.

  • The analyst will be given a discussion guide/questionnaire, based on which he/she will have to conduct in-person (face to face) interviews with ~4 persons (3 of these will be users of power tools, and 1 will be a dealer of power tools).
  • The interviews will each be ~35mins and will be around brand communication awareness. This means that there could be printouts of communication that will need to be shown to the respondent and his response captured.
  • All responses will be captured in an excel/word doc (and if possible and consented by the respondent, the interview will need to be recorded as well). 

Thorough briefing will be done for analysts to take them through the study details, discussion guide, category definitions, challenges and solutions etc. The analyst will be given ~2 days to cover 4 interviews, and another 0.5 days to consolidate responses/recordings etc. for submission.

On primary research, success relies on researchers’ proactivity to recruit and secure interviews with the right contacts, and their ability to uncover key data and insights via open discussions. Researchers are also responsible for building and maintaining a digital library of secondary research by accessing and analysing local/professional trade press, company annual reports, national statistics, broker reports, etc.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating and analyzing large volumes of market data (MS-Excel) and qualitative information.
  • Availability to work throughout the year based on project requirements - likely to require 35 hr per week depending on team needs
  • Conducting interviews with key players along the value chain: manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, associations, government, etc.
  • Perform retail audits of major retailers and stores
  • High level of numeracy. Ability to work with, analyse, and interpret data.
  • Strong interest in market research and tenacity in the pursuit of information
  • An innate curiosity to stay up to date with the evolution of the food and nutrition industry, more specifically on packaged and fresh food retail sales, food packaging and pet food. Food and nutrition experience is an advantage.
  • Familiar with consumer trends in India. Local direct knowledge is key.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to find strong industry contacts.
  • Fluency in English (reporting) and the local language (research).
  • Previous experience working on a short-term contract basis or in a freelance capacity.
  • Excellent time-management, organization and self-motivation skills.
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Flexibility to adapt to unexpected changes in project scope, starting dates, etc.
  • Disposition to visit local stores to capture relevant product information and to discuss the industry with key staff.
  • Continuous training in our market research methodologies via online courses and selected live training sessions.
