Thermal Engineer (Austin, TX)

Exowatt is a next generation renewable energy company offering commercial and industrial customers a modular full-stack energy solution that can provide dispatchable power and heat for up to 24 hours per day, specifically designed to meet the needs of energy-intensive applications such as data centers. We are hiring an experienced and innovative Thermal Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on the thermal management and design of Exowatt’s products, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in various operating conditions. In this role you will design, analyze, and optimize thermal management systems for Exowatt’s products.







What You'll Do:
  • Design, analyze, and optimize thermal management systems for Exowatt’s products.
  • Perform thermal analysis using simulation tools and experimental methods to predict and validate thermal performance of battery systems. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate thermal solutions into product designs.
  • Develop and implement thermal testing procedures, including thermal cycling and environmental testing.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve thermal issues.
  • Support product development from concept through production, ensuring thermal requirements are met.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify and address thermal challenges in our product
  • Build prototypes, test features, analyze failures in order to maximize outputs - continuously optimizing in order to never leave energy on the table.
  • Create excellent technical documentation - slide decks, testing plans and reports, procedures, assembly, vendor specifications, and statements of work, etc.
  • Assist in recruiting and interviewing efforts to help build our amazing team. 


What You Have:
  • BS/MS/PHD in Mechanical or Thermal engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Systems Engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD.
  • Understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in energy systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on using and/or directing finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Experience with thermal analysis of mechanical and electronic systems, in space, air or ground environments.
  • Experience designing highly efficient heat exchangers for high temperature applications.
  • Experience in thermal analysis and thermally-constrained design; computational thermal design experience (finite methods) is not required but highly preferred.
  • Ability to support design decisions with well documented engineering analyses and calculations.
  • Ability to analyze problems and to focus and drive down to the root cause of problems quickly.
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers.
  • A passion and enthusiasm for hardware development, including working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on design and development.
