The Opportunity

As Flock Safety continues to innovate and expand, our development of sophisticated technology—especially in areas like drones as first responder, license plate readers, and other public safety tools—has made it crucial to stay ahead in the policy landscape. This role is pivotal to ensuring that Flock Safety complies with federal, state, and local laws, while also advocating for policies that allow the business to operate smoothly. The policy team tackles the tough issues – privacy, safety, crime, ethics, and advancing technologies like artificial intelligence. 

The Policy Manager will support Flock’s work on legislation and regulation of public safety technologies with a particular focus on federal policy and compliance with state-by-state regulations. This role will also provide cross functional research support to the Legal, External Affairs, and PR teams - including both legal and criminology research. 

This position will join a strong legal team and report to the Director of Policy. 

The Skillset

You have…

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • 4+ years of experience in public policy, law, government, or related field

  • Experience with federal government and/or policy preferred

  • Stellar research skills – the ability to study up on issues, distill and organize the findings, and recommend next steps

  • A penchant for working cross-functionally and building relationships across the organization

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in public policy issues that affect the public safety technology industry

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a the Policy Manager at Flock Safety. 

The first 30 days

  • Complete the onboarding process and attend product briefings to familiarize yourself with Flock Safety.

  • Meet with cross functional teams to develop and understand company objectives and begin to build relationships.

  • Get up to speed on Flock’s federal policy priorities and plans.

  • Conduct an initial literature review of existing research on the efficacy of public safety technology.

The first 60 days

  • Begin tracking federal regulatory developments affecting Flock Safety, particularly around public safety tech and privacy concerns.

  • Support the Legal team on compliance research and execution - for example, ensuring Flock’s ongoing compliance with state-by-state licensing requirements.

  • Drive forward Flock’s federal policy strategy. 

  • Lay the ground work to begin super charging Flock’s messaging through research – using data to show the impact of this technology. 

90 days and beyond

At the end of 90 Days, you are rolling. By now, you should be able to fully support our policy and compliance work and begin taking ownership over federal policy strategy. You should have detailed plans that you’ve been executing, in partnership with multiple teams at Flock. And we should be on the path to expanding opportunities while mitigating threats to our business. 

The Interview Process 

We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. Throughout the interview process, your recruiter will guide you through the next steps and ensure you feel prepared every step of the way. 

  1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 

  2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 

  3. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners. 

  4. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $120,000 - $175,000 as well as stock options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.

At Flock Safety, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. The range above is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.
