Dev Engineer Cassandra API-1

In the Cloud tribe, in the Data Services area a position of Java Backend Engineer within Cassandra team has become available.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Java engineer who loves to create stuff from scratch with a mindset of security first.
Has a natural tendency to help and support and learn from other engineering teams.
A large part of this function will be customer support and owning the API, knowing what is happening and communicating with our infra backend.
Application Platforms is a challenging IT work environment with extensive, innovative developments. Staff who want to grow along with us will be given plenty of opportunities for their own initiatives and development.

The team
The purpose of the Global Tribe Cloud is to build and run the target infrastructure platform in a (private) cloud delivery model. This delivery model is based on multi-tenant, self-service, pay-per-use capabilities for applications of DevOps teams as defined in the One Way of Working.
Tribe Cloud comprises five Global Areas:
· Infrastructure as a Service
· Data Services
· Platform as a Service
· Cloud API Platform
· Onboarding and Customer Experience

The Minions squad provides Cassandra Keyspace as a Service (KaaS) on our multitenant and dedicated clusters. KaaS is provided as a complete journey, our centre of expertise provides continued support and advice to teams using our service.
The Minions squad strives to be ahead of the game by keeping a close eye
on all the metrics and logs to detect possible interruptions before they happen.

At the end, our service plays a critical part within the ING Bank its operations.

Roles and responsibilities

As Java Backend Engineer within API Squad of KaaS you are requested to maintain and create and continuously improve the KaaS API (Which enables efficient provisioning and management of Cassandra datastore). You can write the unit tests by yourself.
You must also contribute to writing up the security documentation and technical state controls.You are in this role also a hands-on DevOps engineer and a part-time squad member and continue to apply your specific expertise to your squad’s backlog.

  • Excellent soft skills.
  • Capable of delivering both working code and a suitable set of automated tests.
  • 7+ years experience in the core of Java 8+ language (requirement Spring boot).
  • Linux RHEL 8 experience.
  • Experienced in OpenShift 4 (Kubernetes k8s).
  • Scripting experience with e.g. Python, Bash.
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps, CD/CI tools and pipelines, Ansible.
  • Good understanding of software security issues, like the OWASP top 10.
  • Familiar with Agile / Scrum methodology.
  • Understanding of working in a complex IT landscape such as ING.
  • Strong Team Player and Experience in working with teams cross countries.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Information Technology.
  • Expert in service or platform as a service Environment.
