Who we are:
Osseo Area Schools Adult Basic Education serves nearly 1,000 adult students a year with a range of classes to provide adult students with English language learning, including reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as core academic content in social studies, science, math and writing to be successful on high school completion options and in college and career pathways.  We are a technology robust school that uses Google Workspace.  With students from over 50 countries and located in the heart of Brooklyn Center, MN, we are committed providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students.

The position: Part Time Volunteer Coordinator and Clerical Support (Adult Basic Education) 

Job summary: Assist the school staff in maintaining and expanding community-school interaction.  Provide support and coordination of volunteer programs within the school. Provide support to staff and students for accommodation requests and/or recordkeeping related to accommodations.This position may also provide clerical support to our intake and attendance practices and procedures, including, but not limited to assisting with scheduling and setting up intake sessions, proctoring standardized tests, and providing communication to staff about student needs.

 


Responsibilities and tasks include: 

 
  • Assist with the coordination and maintenance of existing volunteer programs by receiving requests and contacting resources.
  • Aid staff and school community in determining needs regarding volunteer services.
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of new volunteer programs as directed.
  • Attend appropriate building-level  and community meetings, to report/gather information as requested.
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting potential volunteers.
  • Arrange volunteer orientation and training as directed.
  • Schedule volunteers.
  • Maintain records of volunteer service.
  • Assist in the volunteer program evaluation process as requested.
  • Assist with volunteer recognition as requested.
  • Provide information about volunteer programs to staff and community.
  • Participation in district training program prior to and during employment
  • Provide support to staff and students for accommodation requests and/or recordkeeping related to accommodations.
 

Minimum qualifications include:  

 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to type, maintain records and file.  Computer experience helpful.
Skills, knowledge and abilities preferred:
  • Experience working with adults in a diverse learning environment
  • Multingalism a significant plus
  • Experience living and/or working outside of the United States a plus
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to move from one task to another and back including a strong attention to detail
 

Salary:  View Classification I (1) salary grid on page 4, and section 2, subd. 1, page 5 on Educational Support Professional contract 

 

Work schedule: This position is 20 hours per week: 4 hours/day; 3 hours/day volunteer coordinator and 1 hour/day clerical support; this position may require some evening hours
