Senior Product Manager, Platform Anti-Abuse

At Klaviyo, we value the unique backgrounds, experiences and perspectives each Klaviyo (we call ourselves Klaviyos) brings to our workplace each and every day. We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at success and appreciate the experiences each person brings beyond the traditional job requirements. If you’re a close but not exact match with the description, we hope you’ll still consider applying. Want to learn more about life at Klaviyo? Visit careers.klaviyo.com to see how we empower creators to own their own destiny.

Klaviyo takes the security of our customers and the prevention of fraud and abuse stemming from the use of our platform as one of our utmost priorities. With our global reach comes no shortage of risk. By working alongside a team of talented Engineers, Data Scientists, and Security Specialists in the space of Abuse Detection and Prevention, you'll play a key role in ensuring that our platform maintains a strong security posture and prevents abuse before it impacts the unsuspecting citizens of the world.

The Platform Anti-Abuse team provides reusable platform services that allow product and feature teams to be aware of any ways in which their domains, functionality, and/or APIs could be used to compromise the safety of our customers or their customers. If it’s a risk, those teams will know about it thanks to Platform Anti-Abuse, and can shut it down before threat actors and attackers have a chance to do harm.

As the Senior Product Manager leading this team, you will be wearing several hats, including getting hands-on with product owners of areas where abuse vectors exist or may appear, defining the Platform Anti-Abuse team’s greenfield abuse framework, and measuring the impact of the team’s abuse mitigation efforts. This role requires an inquisitive and determined mind to help keep Klaviyo one step ahead of those who would sign up to use our platform to phish, smish, and otherwise mislead compromised targets into giving up valuable information and endangering their livelihoods.

Members of this team work across our entire R&D department and alongside many of our Security teams in a relentless pursuit of ensuring that our platform stays secure, our customers stay confident in Klaviyo, and their customers stay safe in all of their transactions - for the Klaviyo of today, as well as the future. Please note that this is a hybrid role that requires 3 days/week onsite in our Boston office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered at this time.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Partner with your Product Management peers across the organization to understand their areas, catalogue any existing abuse mitigation mechanisms and their efficacy, and identify opportunities to collaborate and create a safer Klaviyo for our customers and their customers.
  • Partner with Engineers and Designers across R&D to build services and tools to automate the prevention of fraud and abuse inside our platform.
  • Partner with Data Scientists to bring new Machine Learning models to life to assist with automated abuse-prevention workflows.
  • Partner with our internal Risk, Security, and Compliance teams to make use of their expertise alongside your own to ensure the safety of our platform and our customers.
  • Define strategies for leveraging existing detection and prevention systems alongside influencing and building net-new tools and services to combat malicious actors.
  • Identify and pursue process improvements to ensure that feature development moving forward includes both awareness and feedback from Platform Anti-Abuse.
  • Work across all of Klaviyo to fully integrate solutions into our existing UX and product workflows throughout the entirety of the customer journey - from signup to account closure and everything in between.
  • Measure ruthlessly to minimize false positives and ensure our determinations are not impacting the experience for our customers.

Who you are:

  • A highly experienced Product Manager with over 5 years’ experience in a SaaS environment, with direct experience combatting fraud and/or identifying and closing abuse vectors.
  • Familiar with modern practices, tools, and third party services which service the space of detecting and preventing abuse within SaaS platforms.
  • Experienced with working across multiple stakeholders across various functions in large scale, high priority projects where strong coordination and timely communication are valued at a premium.
  • Experienced with API design as well as data storage best-practices.
  • Enthusiastic to work alongside Data Scientists to design, create, tune, and productionalize real-world models.
    • Goal outcome for these models: detect and assist with prevention of abusive or malicious content, in both real-time and asynchronous use cases.
  • Comfortable asking questions to understand how we can best leverage existing systems alongside scoping new solutions to deliver on our mission to keep our platform from being used for harm.
  • Experience managing priorities across many cross-functional stakeholders and dependencies.
  • A team player who can collaborate and build trust with engineers, designers, data science and other cross-functional teammates.
  • Think creatively and approach problems with system-level thinking.

Nice to have:

  • Experience leveraging either home-built or third-party abuse identification and/or mitigation services.
  • Experience working within one or more of the following messaging channels: Email, SMS, Push, WhatsApp
  • Experience working directly, or with Engineers, to build net-new APIs – including necessary guardrails to prevent abuse.
  • Experience with OCR and Image Recognition technologies and algorithms.
  • Experience with transformer-based and/or text embedding-based models.
  • Experience with User Behavior Modeling and Anomaly Detection.
