Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is seeking a Staff Archaeologist to support with public and private sector projects, in Central and Northern California. The individual will be responsible for technical review of field paperwork and site records, scheduling archaeological fieldwork, and/or coordinating cultural resources projects. The individual(s) will largely work remotely and in-office as needed. This position is flex opportunity.Key Responsibilities 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Review of fieldwork paperwork including but not limited to; survey and monitoring forms, agency specific documentation and reports and site records.
  • Work directly with other archaeologists, environmental planners, and project managers.
  • Coordinate archaeological fieldwork for fast-paced projects including monitoring, survey, and testing.
  • Provide initiative, reliability, and commitment to client service and technical excellence.
  • Successful candidates will be familiar with working within a fast-paced consulting environment and help to develop effective solutions to both expected and unexpected project challenges. 
  • Candidates must be available between normal business hours of 8am-5pm, Monday -Friday.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BA/BS or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field; or equivalent experience. Graduate Degree Preferred. 
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in archaeological field, and/or office work in California. 
  • Candidates must be able and willing to travel and work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, sometimes traversing rugged terrain.
  • The ability to independently identify prehistoric and historic-era cultural resources
  • Strong writing and review skills.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and respond quickly while working.
  • Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the California Environmental Quality Act.
  • Previous experience coordinating with Native American Tribes and land agencies. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • Experience coordinating cultural resources projects and managing field staff.
  • Familiarity with digital field technology (GPS, total station, etc.) and GIS applications and software (ArcGIS Field Maps, etc.).
  • Familiar with preparing and reviewing Department of Parks and Recreation Forms (DPR 523- series) required.
  • The ability to work closely with clients, engineers, and other technical specialists as part of a larger combined project team.

Benefits: Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $63,206 - 105,487.
