We are looking for a motivated, challenge seeking, innovative thinker to be a part of the Global Product Design Team across some of the most iconic brands in the industry: Barbie, Hot Wheels, UNO, and more!  We work with an equally passionate cross functional team that spans the globe, making our design-led toy company one of the best in the industry.

Job Description

The Opportunity:
The Global Product Design team is seeking a highly skilled, experienced and self-motivated Senior Designer to join its Action Figure and Plush design team.  The group is focused on creating new product opportunities in the action figure and plush categories; by understanding the consumer, trends and technology that are then translated into successful product.  In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create toys that ignite the imagination and capture the essence of our beloved brands while adhering to Mattel's high standards of quality and innovation.

The ideal candidate exemplifies creativity, imagination, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment.  Successful applicants manage multiple projects while showcasing an understanding of the consumer, trends and innovation that are then translated into high-quality products.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Design a diverse range of toys within the action figure, role play and plush categories, from concept ideation through to final product development.
  • Collaborate with brand managers, content creators, and licensing partners to understand brand identity, characters, and storytelling elements for compelling toy concepts and designs.
  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to identify opportunities for innovative toy concepts and product extensions that resonate with fans and consumers.
  • Iterate on toy designs based on internal feedback, user testing, and market insights to optimize play value, functionality, and appeal while staying true to brand essence.
  • Generate creative ideas, sketches, renderings, and 3D models to visualize toy concepts and effectively communicate design vision to cross-functional teams.
  • Work closely with engineers, sculptors, and manufacturers to refine designs, ensure feasibility, safety, and adherence to quality standards, and oversee the prototyping and production process.
  • Stay up to date on technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to innovate and improve toy designs while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Mentor junior designers to foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning within the design team.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For:

  • 4+ years of toy design experience
  • Knowledge of material and manufacturing process
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite Illustrator and 2D computer programs
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong design excellence, details, aesthetic and problem solving.
  • Interest and knowledge of current trends. Understanding of features and play patterns in the toy industry is a plus.

 

The annual base salary range for this position is between $76,800.00 and $110,000.00

**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
