A Day in the Life

Medtronic Interventional Vascular & Structural Heart (IV&SH) provides interventional devices to treat coronary arteries that are blocked by atherosclerotic plaque and devices and therapies to treat structural defects of the heart. Our Danvers Massachusetts campus brings all of our cardiac and vascular businesses together into one cross-functional, collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe.
Danvers Massachusetts is home to Medtronic’s Extrusion Technology Center of Excellence, and we are looking for Experienced Extrusion Process Engineer I's specializing in Materials, Plastics and Polymers to provide technical support in the area of Extrusion. This includes materials selection, problem-solving, and applied research. You will also serve as a key member of large-scale product or extruded component development. Extrusion Process engineer I, shall be responsible for daily setup of extrusion line depending on the individual NPD project on hand and be able to develop and run extrusion process to produce various products successfully, ensuring quality, safety and efficiency throughout the process

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Setup, operate and maintaining extrusion developmental lines.
  • Select die design and process windows for initial evaluation of extruded components.
  • Participate in the successful component development and extrusion process window development of extrusion. 
  • Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develop, analyze and apply material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
  • Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Serve as the Extrusion & Materials representative on a team. Work independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects / assignments.
  • Participate in technical activities for materials selection, processing, and product design with the team.
  • Responsible for coordinating material, equipment and tooling with external vendors.

Required Knowledge and Experience: 
Requires a Baccalaureate degree, 0 years of experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering.  Strong preference for Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics or Polymer Science.
  • Master’s degree helpful.
  • Extrusion experience.
  • Availability to travel up to 25% for training and to assist with Large-Scale Product Transfer to Danvers.
  • Knowledge of screw and tool design, resin characteristics, temperature control, automated feedback loops, and ancillary downstream equipment such as burst testers and slickers.
  • Extrusion Experience while working for Medtronic.
  • Harrel Extruder experience is a plus.
  • Molding & Braiding experience is a plus.
  • Extruded component development including process window development.
  • Demonstrated computer skills such as Solidworks, Moldflow Analysis, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of Statistics.
  • Process Engineering experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or other Regulated Industry.
  • Working knowledge of Moldflow.
  • Working knowledge of Design of Experiments and familiarity with Statistical software such as Minitab.
  • Familiarity with Insert injection molding and vertical injection molding systems.
  • Experience in process and equipment validation.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$67,200.00 - $100,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
