The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Cashier (Accounting Technician) position within the Financial Services Division’s Accounting & Cash Tax Section (ACTS)

  • This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • This position is based at our headquarters office in Tigard, Oregon and must report in every day, however, there may be some flexibility for a hybrid schedule for parts of the day.
  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

What you will be doing:

As a Cashier (Accounting Technician), you will be responsible for safeguarding, processing, and coordinating the issuance of manual checks and treat confidential matters and materials appropriately.  You will also be responsible for identifying and resolving system generated errors and reconciling registers and processing remittance advices.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Cashier (Accounting Technician)

Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits.

OR

One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2.

OR

At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.

Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following skills, background, and areas of experience:

  • Experience in handling high volumes of data and a significant workload.
  • Reliable and highly experienced in prioritizing and meeting critical daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately enter data using 10-key and proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to track errors and resolve discrepancies in accounting records.
  • Experience in accounts receivable collections.
  • Thrive in an environment of respect and diversity while collaborating with co-workers.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Solution oriented, self-motivated, and self-directed.
