Summary of Duties

As a Family Coach (Human Service Case Manager) you will:

  • Conduct interviews to determine family needs and eligibility, and complete program applications for program benefits and, if eligible, issues appropriate support.
  • Engage clients in family evaluation of strengths and jointly develop a case plan and identify the steps the family will take towards self-sufficiency and meeting their basic needs.
  • Monitor progress, needs, and makes necessary modifications to the case plan.
  • Initiate and participate in case staffing, employment readiness, life skills training, and supports job search as needed.
  • Assist with crisis and safety planning for individuals experiencing domestic violence.
  • Explore alternate resources and link clients to community services and may also assist with supporting resources and services within the community.

Minimum Qualifications


  • A Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field

OR

  • A Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing)

OR

  • An Associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing)

OR

  • Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).

Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. For individuals needing an ADA accommodation to meet this requirement, you will need to be able to provide alternate method of transportation.

Essential Attributes

We are looking for candidates with:

1-Experience working with individuals that find it challenging to express themselves verbally.

2-Experience working in the human/social service field interviewing customers to obtain personal and sensitive information to help determine eligibility for agency programs and benefits.

3-Experience creating and maintaining written documentation of activities concerning individual client cases.

4-Experience with case management and assessing customers’ strengths & service needs.

5-Capacity to communicate, establish boundaries and set realistic goals/milestones.

6-Experience explaining complex rules, regulations, processes, and procedures both verbally and in written communications while demonstrating respect, preserving dignity, and a passion to serve the public

Working Conditions

  • Position is fast paced at times.
  • High volume of individual and family contact. 
  • You will be exposed to a diverse range of customers and will need to respond with compassion and professionalism through a cultural and trauma informed lens.
  • You will have contact with a range of people including some who may be experiencing emotional and financial stress.
  • You will work with domestic violence survivors. These situations may be stressful and understanding self-care and available resources are important. 
  • Employee's work is conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.
  • Hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends.
  • Your work schedule will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST, Monday – Friday. Occasionally you will need to adjust your schedule based on service need.
  • This position requires flexibility to work various hours, to flex in/out to allow for attending local events.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. For individuals needing an ADA accommodation to meet this requirement, you will need to be able to provide alternate method of transportation.
  • This is not a remote position.

Background Checks and Requirements

  • If selected as a finalist, we will conduct a criminal history and background check. Adverse criminal history or background check may lead to disqualification. Additional background check information.
  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
