Are you a current Utah Department of Public Safety Certified Dispatcher? Do you have at least 2 years of Communications experience? Are you interested in being a Communications Center Supervisor? The Communications Bureau is recruiting for a Communications Center Supervisor in the Salt Lake Communications Center.Principal DutiesAs a Communications Center Supervisor you will:• Supervise dispatch center personnel.• Assure that policies, procedures and protocols are properly followed.• Monitor all situations that are occurring in the Dispatch Center.• Develop work schedules to ensure adequate 24-hour, seven day/ week coverage.• Coordinate and monitor staffing for holidays, vacations, sick/personal leave and breaks.• Authorize and monitor overtime, absences or other adjustments in work schedules as needed.• Provide feedback to employees concerning quality assurance and the handling of calls. This includes assuring that proper reports are filled out completely and correctly.• Incorporate, support and abide by supervisory/managerial decisions.• Functions as a liaison between dispatchers and management.• Provide leadership to Communications personnel.• Fulfill duties of a Certified Dispatcher when required.• Maintain confidentiality with information obtained through issues discussed.• Make recommendations for the development or revision of new and/or existing policies, procedures and protocols.Ideal Candidate• Will have two (2) years of emergency dispatch experience.• Will be POST certified• Will be able to work any shift needed• Will have experience in supervising personnel• The ability to exercise sound, expert, independent judgments within general policy guidelines.• The necessary skills to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues and situations.• Requirements• Be a current Utah Department of Public Safety Communications employee.• Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a dispatcher, be POST certified, have passed probation and have no current disciplinary actions.• Must be willing to travel as needed.• Possess and maintain the following certifications:• Utah POST Dispatcher certification to include:• Utah Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD)• International Academies of Emergency Dispatch - IAED• CPR• Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI)• Incident Command System (ICS-100, ICS-200• National Incident Management System (NIMS-700Supplemental Information• This position is eligible for the Public Safety retirement. Must obtain and maintain POST certification.• Department of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state employeesWorking Conditions-• Considerable exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior dealing with emergency nature of job duties, employees, executives, vendors, contractors, the public, and monitoring multi-level emergencies.• Subject to call out, occasional travel, and irregular working hours and 24-hour availability may be required.• Work is typically performed in a standard office setting, which includes but is not limited to: sitting for long periods, using telephones, and computer systems.Interviews will be held on Wednesday April 9th at DPS Headquarters.
