PURPOSE

The Maintenance Technician for Islander Housing at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on university housing facilities, including residence halls and apartment-style living units. The technician will work under the direction of the Facilities Director to ensure that all facilities are in good condition and safe for residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance - 90%

  • Perform regular preventative maintenance and repairs on residential facilities, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, HVAC, and other systems.

  • Respond to resident requests for maintenance or repairs in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Use of ladders and small lifts.

  • Conduct regular inspections of residential units to identify and address potential maintenance issues before they become larger problems.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repair work completed.

  • Work with contractors and vendors as needed to complete larger maintenance projects.

  • Operate a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites.

Other - 10%

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • One (1) year of related experience in building maintenance.

  • Additional experience may be considered as a substitute for the minimum education requirement: Five (5) years of full-time related experience.

  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and other building systems.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, and contractors.

  • Maintain a valid Driver License.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to work on-call and after hours as needed.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work in cramped or awkward positions for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Additional education or training in maintenance or construction fields preferred.

  • Previous experience in building maintenance in a university or other large residential setting is preferred.

SALARY: up to $17.50/hourly.

  • up to $36,400/annually, approximately.
