CSG is organized by core customer-facing lines of business to manage and grow programs within NASA, NOAA, and the NNSA, while extending our capabilities to other civilian federal government agencies fully integrated within Aerospace rules, regulations, processes, values, and behaviors.

Human Exploration and Spaceflight (HESF) Division in CSG is the company subject matter experts for human spaceflight.  HESF supports NASA and its bold human exploration missions from the NASA Headquarters mission directorates to the Moon to Mars office down to every Artemis Program in operation.  We also support the International Space Station (ISS), Commercial LEO Development Program, Commercial Crew Program, and Human Health and Performance.  HESF support spans from architecture and mission design to technology development, requirements and design reviews, and finally to verification, safety, and on orbit operational reviews and concurrences.

The Commercial LEO Development Program Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) Engineer (Senior Project Engineer- Systems & Mission Assurance Engineering) will support Safety and Mission Assurance Programs activities, including mission planning, risk management, safety assurance, and collaboration with commercial partners, and providing program management expertise.

Work Model

This is a full-time position at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, which requires 100% onsite work.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and implement safety policy and requirements for element hardware, payloads and operations, integration of hardware/software, and assure compliance with NASA program safety requirements. 
  • Provide recommendations to senior-level Program management on hazard and safety analyses, risk assessments, and evaluate operations to ensure compliance with approved S&MA requirements to minimize operational risk. 
  • Continuously monitor open work related to flight readiness. 
  • Participate in NASA, Artemis and EHP Program Office forums as well as International Space Station and Commercial Leo Development initiatives. 
  • Develop periodic status reports and presentations. 
  • Develop special reports/discussions of findings, issues, conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments. 
  • Formulate recommendations to senior-level program management. 
  • Continuously monitor, capture, and integrate S&MA/Risk information across multiple programs, NASA centers, industry, and international partners. 
  • Serve as a highly proactive technical specialist, understanding issues and formulating options/recommendations, while working closely with the program S&MA team and across other offices, teams, working groups, and panels 
  • Identify and initiate next level analysis as needed supporting hazard abatement process for hardware and software.  
  • Coordinate requirements, technical objectives, interfaces, standards, issues and findings with subject matter experts and stakeholders. 
  • Perform other duties for the customer as required. 

What You Need to be Successful – Senior Project Engineer- Systems & Mission Assurance Engineering

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree or advanced degree in engineering or science 
  • 10 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment 
  • Five years of experience working in mission management and operations type roles 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NASA program life cycle   
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels 
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise 
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers 
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously 
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner. 
  • Experience working across diverse teams and many different engineering disciplines 
  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met 
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
