To lead this transformative shift in mobility, we’ve built a world-class team in Energy & Materials, Human-Centered AI, Human Interactive Driving, Large Behavioral Models, and Robotics.

The Human Aware Interactions and Learning team uses approaches from machine learning, robotics, and computer vision, along with insights from human factors literature, to devise new techniques that improve on the state of the art towards better machine understanding, prediction, and interactions with people in the driving domain, both in and around the vehicle. We work with computational and cognitive researchers to test our approaches from a variety of data sources and human-in-the-loop experiments to devise ML approaches that work with the driver.

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Project Manager to lead and coordinate our data collection efforts involving human-in-the-loop (HITL) driving simulators, from experiment inception to data delivery towards research and ML use. This role will be critical in ensuring smooth execution across multiple simultaneous projects, aligning partners, and maintaining well-structured timelines for engineering, proctoring, and machine learning support teams.

Responsibilities
  • Project Coordination: Oversee all aspects of data collection using the driving simulators, ensuring smooth execution across multiple concurrent research projects.
  • Proctor and Participant Coordination: Lead the day-to-day aspects of running experiments, including experiment proctors, scheduling, and logistics to ensure efficient human subject participation in experiments.
  • Engineering and Technical Liaison: Work closely with engineering teams to define requirements, track development needs, and facilitate timely deployment of simulator updates.
  • Algorithm and Machine Learning Support: Coordinate with ML researchers and data scientists to ensure alignment between data collection and algorithm development.
  • Timeline and Task Management: Develop and maintain structured project plans, ensuring tasks across different teams are completed on time and within scope.
  • Cross-Team Communication: Act as a central point of contact, ensuring alignment between research, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Verify that data collection processes meet research integrity, compliance, and data security requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Human Factors, Project Management).
  • Experience managing projects involving human subject experiments, simulators, or data collection workflows. Some experience in projects that include both technical work and human-related data.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to lead multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to bridge technical and operational teams.
  • Familiarity with machine learning workflows and data requirements is a plus.
  • Experience with research compliance, IRB protocols, or ethical considerations in human-in-the-loop studies is desirable.
