SUMMARY

Trinity Rep is looking for an Associate Director of Individual Giving to play a key role in advancing our mission through annual fund growth, major gifts, legacy giving, and donor engagement.

The Associate Director of Individual Giving plays a key role in Trinity Rep’s fundraising efforts, focusing on major gifts, legacy giving, and donor engagement. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, this position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors, with a focus on leadership annual giving and campaign contributions. They provide strategic oversight of the Annual Fund, support capital campaign management, and collaborate with colleagues, leadership, trustees, and volunteers to enhance donor relationships, expand engagement, and grow contributed revenue. The Associate Director of Individual Giving manages the organization’s legacy giving program, and collaborates with the development team on strategic initiatives and special projects.


The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is highly organized, goal-driven, and skilled in relationship-building and communication. They should be comfortable working collaboratively, analyzing data to drive fundraising strategies, and engaging a variety of stakeholders. Minimum requirements include five years of professional fundraising experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), a working knowledge of customer relationship management and/or fundraising database software (Salesforce or PatronManager preferred), and a passion for the arts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Advancement and members of the development team (Advancement Manager and Donor Services & Data Specialist) to support the achievement of fundraising goals
  • Serve as a major gifts officer for individual gifts to the Annual Fund, planned gifts, and individual campaign contributions. Actively manage a portfolio of leadership giving prospects/donors (with the capacity to make five- to seven-figure gifts), focusing on strategic engagement and relationship building
  • Provide strategic oversight of Trinity Rep’s Annual Fund, including establishing strategy, solicitation schedules, and performance monitoring. Develop, coordinate, and manage the annual schedule of solicitation efforts, including mail, online, and events, in collaboration with the development and marketing teams. Identify opportunities and implement plans to optimize individual solicitation results, increase both the number of donors and per capita giving, and improve donor retention rates
  • Serve as a Campaign Manager during capital campaigns, supporting strategy, prospect review meetings, and campaign steering committee efforts. Coordinate submission of funding proposals to individuals and family foundations during the campaign. Work closely with campaign consultant to advance fundraising efforts
  • Provide support to executive leadership, trustees, and volunteer solicitors to ensure effective engagement with key donors and prospects in all phases of the donor cycle
  • Support expansion of donor base through prospect research and strategic cultivation
  • Support the development of strategies, outlines, and talking points for cultivation and solicitation meetings and events
  • With support of Donor Services & Data Specialist, track, manage, and report on donor history, pledges, payments, and giving trends in the CRM system, using data to drive strategy
  • Develop and oversee reporting to track and manage annual fund giving, pledge commitments, and payments, as well as campaign prospect development and moves management
  • Plan and manage Trinity Rep’s Legacy Giving Program (Stanzler Society), including training staff and volunteers in planned giving strategies
  • Participate in and provide support for full board meetings, select committee meetings, and development events, including Opening Nights, First Look Fridays, donor trips, and the Pell Awards gala
  • Steward relationships to build strong, positive, lasting connections between the donor and the organization
  • Maintain current knowledge of best fundraising practices in the non-profit theater
  • Understand and effectively communicate the mission, programs, and values of Trinity Rep
  • Support general donor relations, fundraising projects, events, and tasks as needed
  • Support Trinity Rep in fostering our core values of Company, Community, and Education and in our work to become an anti-racist institution
  • Other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


This position does not have direct reports, but does assist in supervising, mentoring, and motivating the development team and volunteer solicitors. In the Director of Institutional Advancement’s absence, this position will be deputized to provide team leadership and make key decisions as needed.

Education and/or Experience:


Five or more years of professional fundraising experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Strong administrative and organizational skills. Interest and/or involvement in an arts related enterprise. Non-profit theater experience and familiarity is a plus.


Language Skills:


Excellent, persuasive, and diplomatic communicator with the ability to positively interact with, effectively share information with, and respond to questions from major donors, trustees, patrons, managers, colleagues, and the general public in person, by telephone, and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable delivering presentations to groups of high-profile individuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret conversations and written materials, including narratives, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, data-based reports, and governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence, reports, plans, and documentation of procedures.


Mathematical Skills:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide figures and to calculate percentages and discounts. Ability to understand and apply concepts of probability. Ability to project future giving.


Reasoning Ability:


High degree of integrity and professionalism, respecting confidential donor information and relationships. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to identify priorities, develop strategies, manage multiple tasks at once, and keep track of and meet deadlines and goals. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to collect and interpret data and information, establish facts, define problems, and draw reasonable conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of customer relationship management and/or fundraising database software (Salesforce or Patron Manager preferred); internet software; spreadsheet software; word processing software; and email software.
