Summary:


Vaxcyte’s Summer Internship program offers students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience that complements their college curriculum with relevant hands-on work that can shape their future career pathing and interests. 


As a Downstream Protein Development Intern for Vaxcyte, you will work on a project as outlined below:

- Assess the impact of different purification techniques on protein and process quality attributes and evaluate characteristics of the purified protein(s) used in vaccine development.

- Use ÄKTA for protein purification - exploring and optimizing buffer conditions, run parameters, and column parameters to improve protein purification processes.

- Analyze chromatograms, use SDS-PAGE, spectrophotometry, or other techniques to evaluate the protein(s) and the process.

- Compile data to present a picture of the purification process.


The Intern will learn and practice:

- Hands-on lab experience with techniques to assess protein quality, concentration, and purity.

- Develop skills in using lab equipment (e.g., pipettes, scales, pH meters) and preparing buffers, along with analyzing and presenting data to support process improvements.


Program Details:
  • The Internship will begin in July and will be around 8 weeks (8 hours per day) in duration at our San Carlos, California location. 


Requirements:
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree (enrolled student with at least 1 year of college completed) with a focus on Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and work quality.
  • Demonstrates collaboration and teamwork. 
  • Enthusiastic - shows curiosity and is eager to learn.
  • Dedicated.


Reports to: Associate Scientist II, Protein Process Development & Manufacturing

 

Location: San Carlos, CA

 

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is $23-$26 per hour for undergraduate students. Actual pay will be determined based on year of university/college completed. The Summer Internship position will not be eligible for benefits. Relocation and housing stipend will not be offered.
