Job Description

The Quantitative Translational and ADME Sciences (QTAS) department in AbbVie Bay Area (ABA), CA is seeking a highly motivated fulltime in vitro ADME Scientist to join the In Vitro ADME Sciences group (IVAS).  The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other team members to support preclinical characterization of drug molecules in Discovery.  The IVAS team within the QTAS department works very closely with other disciplines (bioanalysis, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, toxicology etc.) to perform preclinical compound characterization, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

In this role, you will be a scientist with hands-on experience in conducting in-vitro ADME assays, primarily CYP450 induction to characterize candidate drug molecules for potential to induce CYP450 enzymes.  Furthermore, you will provide support to project teams to enhance mechanistic understanding of complex drug-drug interactions.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Routinely conduct (hands-on) evaluation of CYP450 induction of candidate molecules
  • Conduct qPCR assay
  • Interpretation of in vitro CYP induction data derived from assays in human hepatocytes or reporter gene systems
  • Perform human hepatocytes cell culture, seeding and maintenance
  • Perform cell viability assessments and use microplate reader to measure endpoint
  • Contribute to other exploratory invitro ADME assay design and discussions
  • Analyze data and maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensible study documentations
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint/Excel, BioELN and GraphPad Prism for data analysis

Qualifications

  • MS degree with 0-2 years of experience, B.S. with 3 or more years of experience, or equivalent in drug metabolism or related discipline with relevant industry experience in drug discovery/development. 
  • Prior experience conducting ADME assays and understanding of the concept of drug-drug interaction is preferred
  • Prior working experience with human hepatocytes is preferred
  • Prior knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as qPCR is preferred.
  • Maintain knowledge of the principles and theories in ADME in general, and CYP450 induction in particular
  • Ability to clearly communicate and work collaboratively with others
  • Able to independently interpret findings and present data
  • The individual is expected to be proactive, organized, and passionate about ADME/drug disposition
