Structural Intern- Summer 2025

Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing South Burlington, VT office is seeking an enthusiastic Structural Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2025. This position will primarily assist the Structures group with some assistance to the Transportation Engineering and Transportation Systems groups. Projects include rehabilitation and replacement of highway, rail, and pedestrian bridges with associated structural and roadway design. The successful intern candidate will learn technical skills and computational software programs necessary to assist in the completion of transportation projects throughout the state and northeast region.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation
  • Assist with completion of conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans
  • Assist with bridge scoping studies and alternatives analysis
  • Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates
  • Perform field investigations and data collection for new and ongoing projects
  • Assist with traffic impact studies, scoping studies, and alternatives analyses

Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates
  • Willingness to support different engineering disciplines
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related studies
  • Interest in structural design, transportation engineering/planning, and/or traffic engineering
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bentley MicroStation or OpenRoads experience preferred
