You are important. Your ideas are important. As a global team with a huge range of different people from many nationalities, backgrounds and cultures, we want each and every one of you to feel included, supported and heard. It all starts with listening.

We believe in active listening and we're building a culture where all our employees can use their voice and share their feedback. It continues with making sure you have equal access to opportunities and are paid equitably accross AXA. With our global parental leave policy. With our commitment to improve gender balance within our top 250 leaders by 2023. And with our renewed focus on your wellbeing and mental health, with an Employee Assistance Programme. So you can always do your best, because you feel at your best.

As part of our Employer Promise we commit to our employees being able to "Thrive within a diverse community".  Listen to how Paul thrives within a diverse team

This is supported through:

  • Our Employee Resource groups that exist in entities across the world.
  • We have community partnerships with hundreds of organisations within the countries we are based in.
  • We run inclusion and diversity training programmes for our employees to complete.

In the interview below we talk to Romain who is a Group Intneral Audit Manager at AXA, based is Paris. Through a scheme set up by AXA he mentors young people from the local community. Here is what he had to say:

  1. You are a mentor at AXA, can you tell us what this means to you on a daily basis and how it works?

Being a mentor on a daily basis is an opportunity to give a little piece of my time to young people who really need it and to contribute to the future of our generations. It is also a great opportunity to grow in line with the reality of our society, helping these young people to discover the world and its opportunities. Simple schedule: some work, a game of chess, a video game, a walk in Paris to discover its architecture, a trip to the swimming pool, some food and some long discussions. For real, this is less time-consuming than an episode of Game of Thrones on TV.

  1. What has mentoring brought to you as an employee and as an individual?

As an employee, this adventure with AXA and the association Telemaque is a great illustration of Inclusion & Diversity’s practices and act for human progress, the purpose of the company. As an individual, it is a good way of challenging myself to be better. Otherwise, it just makes me happy to get this opportunity to help and contribute to a better world (far away from what I might see on TV today…).

  1. How do you feel supported by AXA and your manager in this journey?

I get good support, but mentoring is not really integrated into our employee roadmap. Most of the time spent to be impactful is at the weekend or during my holidays.

  1. What advice would you give to others who want to become mentors as well?

There is nothing to lose, but probably a lot to win! Getting started and trying it out is already the first step towards success.
