We strive to create a learning environment that upholds the College’s mission to meaningfully include the voices, works, and ideas of communities and cultures historically marginalized in liberal arts and sciences education. DEI at Bard aims to work at the systemic as well as the interpersonal level to address the implicit and explicit ways racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and religious discrimination impact the learning process.
There are four offices on campus that lead the College’s DEI work. They are:
Community Partnerships The mission of Bard College is to cultivate scholar-leaders who engage with their local and global communities. Through the Center for Civic Engagement, Trustee Leader Scholar Program, Rethinking Place: Bard-on-Mahicantuck and other initiatives, Bard remains dedicated to diverse initiatives centering equity within its modes of research, social action and outreach. Employee Resource Groups Professionals of Color: Bard Professionals of Color exists to provide mutual support to staff of color in their work at Bard and as professionals in their respective fields. It also exists as a safe and affirming social space for staff of color with a focus on fostering community. The Professionals of Color group works to bring institutional equity and inclusion to the forefront, particularly in regard to departmental transparency on evaluation and promotion criteria. Out@Bard: Out@Bard is dedicated to the interests and concerns of LGBTQ identifying faculty and staff. Membership is open to all employees at Bard College and across the Bard/OSUN Network. As a recognized entity of the Council for Inclusive Excellence, Out@Bard is a catalyst for community, open dialogue, an equitable campus climate, and institutional change.
