Unleashing the Mythical Unicorn of Optimism: Riding the Waves of Doubt with a Glittering Horn

5/20/2023 - Regional Sales Director

Pros

Browsing through some of the less than stellar comments here, I've got to chuckle - were these folks looking to review Securonix instead? No harm meant, of course - we all know there's not much going on in that corner. Been with this enterprise for over half a decade and, my oh my, the evolution has been incredible to say the least. Changes in the product, the teams, the leadership, and the company culture – exactly what you'd anticipate from a growing startup. Despite all the change, some elements have held true. First off, Exabeam rewards hard work and dedication. Here at Exabeam, you reap what you sow. It's about rolling up your sleeves and taking on those tasks that others might shy away from. This isn't a game of politics like at Cisco or IBM; it's about hard work, grit, and a positive attitude. If that's not your cup of tea, then maybe this ain't your place. Second, diversity is paramount to Exabeam. "A company thrives when its team reflects its customers" - there's a lot of truth to that. Can we do better? Heck yeah. Is it tough in a fairly homogenous industry? You bet. But does Exabeam genuinely strive for diversity to strengthen us? I really believe they do… Third, we're in the business of building groundbreaking tech. Okay, laugh it up about Legacy Data Lake, but how about we give credit where it’s due with Advanced Analytics? And we’re finally back on track with game-changing projects like TDIR. SIEM isn’t a walk in the park, as all the newbies in the market will soon realize (looking at you, bird corp). We've got nearly a decade of hard-earned wisdom under our belt and it's all paying off now. Fourth, we've got the cream of the crop in sales. Ralph's leadership is a rare gem. The loyalty he inspires is unmatched. And I love the "go the extra mile for our customers" spirit that drives our sales team- it’s what sucked me in years ago, watching folks like Zyrek go to the ends of the earth for his customers. Lastly, Exabeam’s got heart. People here genuinely care. It’s a late-stage startup and reaching this point required blood, sweat, and tears. Yet, our leadership is open-door and truly cares about our well-being, as evidenced by perks like the Thank You days and all the work they do to understand employee sentiment with those damn surveys so they can fix what’s broken. Don’t get me wrong. Exabeam’s not perfect. Some days, it feels like I'm running on empty. The thought of an easy gig at a big box corporation crosses my mind. But more often than not, the excitement and anticipation of what we're building gives me a buzz. The upside if we pull this off is unimaginable. It's all about the grit to see it through, and that’s what makes it worth it. The potential we have in front of us is tremendous and every success story fuels my belief that we’re on the right path.

Cons

As a late-stage startup in today's economy, there's bound to be a few kinks. Conserving cash and being frugal are part of the journey, especially in this market. We're missing a few perks like 401k matches and frequent in-person meetups, but we're obviously bracing for the potential economic storm and that requires some sacrifices. Morale has had its ups and downs, especially during the launch of our new product. Management seems aware and are doing their best to boost spirits with upcoming regional gatherings, which is a step in the right direction. My main gripe is the uncertainty about an exit strategy. Some clarity or opportunity to sell equity would be nice. But hey, nothing worth doing is ever easy, right? Stick around for the ride, folks. It's going to be one hell of a journey.

Here at Exabeam, we know that talent, creativity, and business outcomes flourish in diverse communities. We strive to continue building a team that comes from all walks of life, which is why we’ve created our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) organization, the Exabeam CommUNITY Council (ECC).

The goal of the ECC is to promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion, spread knowledge and awareness, encourage open and honest conversations, and help create a greater sense of belonging across the organization. The ECC is built up of various employee resources groups — including ExaGals, Pride, Veterans, and more — the heart and soul of DEIB at Exabeam! They allow for like-minded individuals to come together, provide a safe space, raise visibility, and further promote and support DEIB.
