Traffic - but you do get paid while sitting in it; I always have a fun audio book or podcast ready when neededSince 2005, F I R S T S T E P S for Kids, Inc. has specialized in improving the lives of children diagnosed with Autism and related behavioral and development diagnoses by using a treatment model called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is so well-documented and effective that the US Surgeon General (1999), the American Academy of Pediatrics (2007), the National Autism Center (2009), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (2010) have all recommended its use and consider it “best practice” for teaching new skills and reducing behavioral challenges in this population. At FirstSteps, our clinical team, including our Therapeutic Instructors, are extensively trained to provide state-of-the-art care that is behavior analytic, individualized, and effective, while always cherishing the wonderfully unique personalities of our clients. We strive to help our kids and families with what matters most to them, be it communication, adaptive/self-care, play, social, and/or academic skills, with the intent and determination for our little ones to use their new skills to enjoy and independently participate in their families, homes, schools, and communities. As a team, we work to build the foundation upon which our clients’ hopes and dreams may be realized. We want what they want; for our young clients to live as independently as possible as adults, to have activities that bring them joy throughout their lives, to know how to self-advocate and stay safe in their communities…and to thrive.
FirstSteps for Kids, Inc. values diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of our treatment model - in our service delivery with our clients, in collaboration with families and communities, and in our organizational culture and practices with our staff.
We strive to serve a diverse population of children and their families, and see a responsibility to address the issue of inequity in access to ABA services across different cultures.
We value the importance of employing diverse staff, and firmly believe that representation of different backgrounds, gender identities, races, cultures, and sexual orientations are integral to providing an equitable work environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
As a service provider to children and their families, we believe that we have a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to social change and contribute to a more kind and compassionate world by living our values of diversity and equity in all of our daily operations.
When we provide a more diverse learning environment for our clients and their families, we provide a more meaningful experience for all and contribute toward a more equitable future for everyone.
Our FirstSteps Team is inspired by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential. To that end, we are committed to hiring and mentoring a passionate and dedicated staff and providing an environment that fosters growth and learning. Our greatest reward is the progress of our kids and the knowledge that we are making a positive impact on our families and the communities we serve.
