Company has changed for the better

Approves of CEO

Pros

- Incredibly inspiring mission, work feels purposeful - Great work/life balance (4 Day Work Week!!!) - Brand has become more culturally relevant again - A CEO who is passionate and actually cares about people - Company is finally moving in the right direction - Much better culture and nicer environment than most tech companies - Insanely diverse team, especially leadership

Cons

Coming from a different environment, I really appreciate the culture Kickstarter has built and how we treat our employees but I do think it’s created a sense of entitlement here. It’s disappointing hearing fellow employees complain at times because I’m not sure they understand how great things at Kickstarter are. Especially during a time when companies are laying off thousands of people.

Kickstarter will annually donate 5% of its after-tax profit towards arts and music education, and to organizations fighting to end systemic inequality as further defined in sections 4(c) and 5(c) below (the “5% pledge”).

Half of Kickstarter’s 5% pledge will be devoted to organizations addressing systemic inequality. Kickstarter will primarily focus such contributions on 501(c)(3) organizations fighting to end prejudices against and increase opportunities for people of color, women, and LGBTQ individuals.

OPEN ROLES

We believe that art and creative expression are essential to a healthy and vibrant society. If you do too, we can’t wait to hear from you.

About

Kickstarter campaigns make ideas into reality. It’s where creators share new visions for creative work with the communities that will come together to fund them. Some of these creators, like Critical Role, TLC, and The Smithsonian Institution already had huge fanbases. But many projects have been as small-scale as a limited run of silent meditation vinyls or as up-and-coming as early versions of Issa Rae's Insecure and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag. No matter what, creators always control how the work comes together—no 100-page grant applications, no donors demanding you modify your message, no last-minute edits from investors. When backers chip in funding and help spread the word, they too become part of these independent works.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help bring creative projects to life. We believe that art and creative expression are essential to a healthy and vibrant society, and the space to create requires protection. We don’t want art world elites and entertainment executives to define our culture; we want creative people—even those who’ve never made anything before—to take the wheel. We help creators connect directly with their communities, putting power where it belongs. We are so committed to our mission, we wrote it into our business model. In 2015 we became a Public Benefit Corporation—a for-profit company that prioritizes positive outcomes for society as much as our shareholders. We updated our corporate charter to lay out specific goals and commitments to put our values into our operations, promote arts and culture, fight inequality, and help creative projects happen.

Building a Creative Career on Kickstarter: A Visit to Kingdom Death Long before Adam Poots raised a record-breaking $12.4 million on Kickstarter, he raised… a lot less. Adam’s story shows the value in sticking with an idea and building it out over time — with the help and support of your Kickstarter fan base. We visited the Kingdom Death studio in Brooklyn to hear Adam’s thoughts on success and chasing a creative dream.
