Our mission is to unlock every writer’s potential.
Pros
- Thoughtful and intentional leadership, goals are reasonable but motivating. - Strong compensation compared to my experience in other parts of the industry - Company is legitimately focused on its mission, you can tell how serious they are on ensuring everything they build has input from teachers and students. - The company as a business is focused on profitability and long-term success over short term wins and cheap unsustainable growth. The exec leaders here speak in such a measured and honest way about company objectives it made my jaw drop the first time I heard them. - They are willing to invest in their people and customers to ensure success.Cons
- Benefits package could be more robust, no 401k matching - Company is clearly going through a period of change as they become more intentional about growth. There has been some noticeable friction particularly given longer tenured employees came straight from teaching and are less business oriented.NoRedInk is on a mission to unlock every writer’s potential and we believe that how we achieve that goal is just as important. We cultivate a supportive environment rich with feedback to foster the growth and happiness of everyone on our team.

We’re a company founded by a teacher to help other teachers and students and we exude that in everything we do. It’s uncommon to find a truly mission-driven company and even less common to find one with such significant alignment in our values, like “put teachers & students first.” Another of our values—”relentlessly improve”—drives us to see technology not as a commodity, but as a differentiator. We’re building a platform that’s more reliable, maintainable, and capable than others, using strongly typed functional programming languages like Elm and Haskell. While we do use other technologies such as Rails and JS, we’re focused on writing safe and reliable code that sets us apart from the rest.
Tessa loves solving problems and addressing new challenges in code. Before joining NoRedInk’s engineering team, Tessa spent her time thinking about curricula, learning, and engagement in the context of teaching web development.
We are a team of ~80 people with a deep commitment to unlocking every writer’s potential. We have a strong remote culture; many of our jobs are remote-friendly.
