Here's the entry on diversity and inclusion in our handbook. These are not mere words - we live by it.

Encouraging diversity and inclusion

We want to build a diverse team. Diverse teams perform better, and are a better reflection of our world. Being a remote company should make this much easier. We are to set the bar really high, as an example to all other companies.

Some guidelines to improve diversity (please email job at remote for further suggestions):

  1. If you have an open position and find that the applications are homogeneous in the type of people that apply (e.g. only men), you must actively seek out other candidates. You can do this e.g. through posting the job in a site for female engineers. It's OK if this costs us money.
  2. People tend to like and hire people similar to themselves. Make sure that the people in the hiring committee for any positions are not all the same.
  3. Be aware that we all have different personal pronouns. If you are unsure, always ask. Likewise, use gender-neutral language, such as "salesperson", instead of "salesman". We want everyone starting at Remote to feel like themselves and that they can bring their full selves to work.
