Disfunctional mess, toxic leadership

2/21/2024 - Senior Software Engineer at Morrisville, NC
Recommends
Positive outlook

Pros

Fully committed to remote working. Great 401k matching and generous PTO.

Cons

This place is just a total mess. In Feb 2023, they announced widespread layoffs and many key people were let go. Support was completely gutted and most subject experts were let go. Since then, there has also been attrition. The CPO is extremely toxic and has forced almost the entire PM team to leave over the past year. The disfunction that has been left behind is extreme. Support and PM are now staffed by brand new people who don't understand basic functionality of the product. Leadership has started asking engineering to do front line support and are now also responsible for doing much of the PM work. Now the CPO was somehow put in charge of engineering too and is starting to spread her toxicity into the organization. Productivity has fallen off a cliff because top engineers are being pulled into doing front line work constantly, meanwhile leadership is expecting more and more despite a lack of resources. Plans shift constantly. One customer complains and all work has to drop just to fix their issue. The CEO favors certain customers and will meddle in individual team work to shift priorities just to appease them. Advancement within the organization is impossible. They lay out exact requirements to move up to a level but all promotions are denied. The reason is because there is no budget for promotions. There is no budget for anything. Engineering can't even buy books or fly out to major conferences or to meet with important partners. Meanwhile the full sales team gets flown across the globe to a in-person event. Big signs of failure in this company. Major red flags.
