Pros

Virtu is a really special place. #1: There is a strong culture of mentorship and learning. The company has somewhat of a flat structure, which has been great for me to get exposure to different projects outside of my core role. My manager consistently provides me with feedback (good and bad) and I feel encouraged to reach out to people at the firm to get to know them personally and professionally, which makes me more comfortable and confident in my work. #2: The people are smart and well rounded. People not only want to share more about their work when asked, but they do it in a way that is easy to understand. What's interesting is that people at Virtu also come from different backgrounds: big tech, finance, PhD programs, startups, non-profits... I think we even have a former NBA star. It's cool to see us all end up here and do our thing. #3: There are some nice benefits and perks. Compensation is pretty good. We also get a ton of vacation and sick days. I've seen colleagues adjust their work day to fit their kid's schedules and other things going on in life. It's nice to know there is flexibility if I need it. We also get a lunch stipend, coffees and smoothies, regular happy hours, gym reimbursement, mass transit match, etc. Guest speakers occasionally come in to talk about finance and DEI topics. Overall it seems that if you perform well, make strong connections, and take advantage of / create opportunities - you will gain a breadth of skills and be rewarded for it.

Cons

If you're looking for a cushy job, this is not it. The mentality here is not to do the bare minimum, but to consistently think about ways to automate and improve processes. You will be challenged. The environment can be tough if you aren't proactive, collaborative, resourceful, and nimble. It is exciting for me, but not for everyone.
