Voleon is now well established as one of the leaders in the application of machine learning techniques to finance and trading. Voleon is exceptional in its ability to attract and develop new leaders in that combined specialty. The company has a lot of new growth opportunities, within its existing hedge fund products and across multiple other fronts. That growth potential probably makes this a good time to be at Voleon or to join. It has long been a growth environment for people with strong technical skills and ML academic background. Now is also likely a good time for business-minded leaders with entrepreneurial skills and an aptitude for operating across tech and commercial considerations. The intellectual caliber of the Voleon team is exceptionally high. It is among that small group of companies where really smart people can feel consistently engaged and stimulated. The company supports remote and hybrid work, at least in many cases. Senior leaders have high integrity and keep long-term commitments.Cons
Voleon is at a new stage of growth and (like many companies in that situation) is working out how to cope with that increased scale, with more or less progress across different parts of the company. There are real challenges and frustrations that come in these growth stages. Ideas will be challenged at Voleon, and the expectations for both speed and quality of work are high. At least above junior levels, it is a demanding environment. There are mixed reviews on compensation, at least per word of mouth.
