Recruitment and hiring
Finding, hiring and retaining talented employees is critical in our mission to provide safe and reliable energy service with a strong customer focus at all WEC Energy Group companies. A highly qualified and diverse work force helps us achieve a competitive advantage in our industry.
Succession planning and internal talent development are integral components of our workforce planning process. Across our companies, we have about 8,000 employees, and we need to find hundreds of qualified employees each year – a number that is growing with increasing retirements.
We use behavioral-based interviewing to identify top talent, and our recruitment strategy is multifaceted. We have strong relationships with high schools, colleges and universities in the areas our companies serve. Each year, we employ students in internships and cooperative education programs, and we have strong ties with community organizations and local government workforce development programs.
We also partner with military organizations and veteran groups to attract people with technical and leadership skills. As a strategy for developing the external labor pool in our service areas, we contribute to nonprofit organizations that support recruiting needs for a diverse, promotable workforce. We also support many accredited educational institutions.
Human Resources consultants from our companies attend career fairs at universities and technical colleges primarily in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Representatives also attend job fairs for veterans, minorities, unions and other organizations. Much of the recruitment targets occupations where our companies have the most frequent needs: engineers, line mechanics, natural gas workers and customer service consultants.
Qualified individuals looking for great career opportunities should apply online for available positions. Job-specific testing and interviews may be required for selected applicants. Successful candidates would complete the pre-employment process, which includes a background verification and drug testing.
Student opportunities
We employ students to help keep the energy flowing to our customers in a safe and reliable manner. Our student employees have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives every day. We often have student opportunities available in the following areas:
