    Elementary Administrative Intern

    Position Summary:
    The Administrative Intern is a limited term assignment, generally one school year, designed to develop and prepare an aspiring principal for future leadership positions in the schools. This position provides additional administrator support to the School Principal in the assigned school. The Administrator Intern shall be responsible for various functions including, but not limited to, operational leadership, family community engagement, outreach, instructional leadership and organization of the school under the direction and guidance of the School Principal. The Administrative Intern develops building-level administrative skills by assisting the Principal and other members of the administrative team in providing professional leadership to organize, administer, and provide support for a creative school program.

    Essential Duties:
    • Is responsible for various functions including, but not limited to, instructional leadership and organization of the school under the direction and guidance of the School Principal.
    • Performs administrative level duties under general supervision to learn from practical experience the skills needed to resolve problems and to transition from a teacher to an administrator.
    • Shadows the Building Administrator, learning to manage personnel through appropriate delegation, planning and evaluation.
    • Helps foster an environment where staff and faculty work cooperatively together and hold each other accountable to reach high levels of student achievement.
    • Observes teaching methods and examine learning materials to evaluate and standardize curricula and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed, with the guidance of the Building Administrator.
    • Fosters a positive school climate by assessing, planning, and communicating with the school community; promoting distributive leadership while demonstrating understanding of and respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
    • Promotes a positive tone for collaborative school/community relations by articulating the mission, seeking community support, and fostering rapport with all stakeholders.
    • Confers with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning problems.
    • Learns to effectively evaluate teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and leadership skills, while identifying high- and low-effectiveness performers, and how to provide clear and actionable feedback, resources and support.
    • Assists in providing ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of school / assigned building data, best practices and instructional research.
    • Develops skills to aid in the modeling and promoting of the continuous use of data to inform best practice while driving decision making and instruction.
    • Begins to manage school resources (fiscal, human capital, facilities and equipment, etc.) to support student achievement goals and stay in compliance with district policies.
    • Assists in establishing an optimal learning environment within the school.
    • Works with principal, staff and parents on strategies that assist in continuously improving student’s achievement and instruction.
    • Instills and promotes quality instructional programs in the school and to ensure high levels of achievement from all students.
    • Ability to attend extracurricular activities scheduled during the day or in the evening.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
    • Bachelor’s Degree required in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, or other relevant field plus a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience, with at least 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience in the same level (elementary, secondary) school.
    • Enrolled in Master’s Degree in Education with a minimum of 1 year completed at time of hire and degree completed at the end of 1st year.
    • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues, principles, and practices in public education and possess the ability to apply them to the needs of a school.
    • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity.
    • Capacity to define a vision, build teams and achieve results despite tremendous obstacles.
    • Ability to learn strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
    • An aptitude for leading adults; a vision for staff recruitment, selection, training, management, labor relations and supervision.
    • Requires participation in developmental activities and training programs, some may occur outside normal working hours.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
    • Keen ability to use data in the decision making process and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building upon previous learning and being open and receptive to ongoing feedback.
    • Have ability to travel in personal or school district vehicle.
    • Be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions, and locations.

    • Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, and climb stairs, walk, run and reach.
    • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds.
