Student Success Coordinators (SSCs) support student success and engagement by regularly engaging with students to help them navigate WCU experiences and connecting them with resources. SSCs support student success and persistence by helping them understand degree requirements, navigate academic policies, and facilitating timely course scheduling. Via direct contact with students, the SSC offers different types of academic support services to help students understand degree programs such as major specific requirements, general education requirements, and aid students in their utilization of academic systems and structures. SSCs design and administer student engagement campaigns to nudge students on responsibilities such as placement exercises for incoming students, returning student registration and readmission invitations; create, design, and deploy communication campaigns utilizing mailings, emails, text messages, social media, and newsletters to directly engage with students; and respond to incoming requests for student support by connecting with students to the resources available to support student retention. This position is responsible for understanding the student experience and identifying process improvements while promoting retention and academic success.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to student success; engaging communication skills; proactive thinking; creative problem-solving and continuous process improvement. The incumbent is team-oriented and will work closely with faculty and staff colleagues to support students.

Responsibilities include:


  • Support students in understanding academic and registration requirements
  • Develop and execute student communication campaigns to help connect students to academic and registration resources
  • Utilize technology, such as the Navigate Student Success Platform, to understand student profiles and engage students
  • Meet with students (via a combination of in-person and virtual appointments) to discuss academic requirements and resolve challenges
  • Utilize proactive strategies to support student registration, academic planning, and navigation of curriculums and policies via meetings, communications, and programming
  • Collaborate and communicate with faculty, chairs, deans, and colleagues regarding student care strategies and outcomes
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for student engagement campaigns and individual student outreach
  • Engage in daily communication with individual students and cohorts critical to the University’s commitment to student success and engagement
  • Utilize student data to identify opportunities for outreach and support
  • Plan, review, and facilitate outreach campaigns, and communication with students
  • Identify continual process improvements to the student experience using campaign outcomes, challenges, and opportunities
  • Comply with and represent the university in compliance with federal and institutional policies and guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Provide FERPA training and promote FERPA in all interactions with WCU Staff faculty, students, and families

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year experience supporting students
  • Experience developing communications to support student engagement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in student advising and/or enrollment management
  • Experience using student information systems such as Navigate, BANNER
  • Experience meeting diverse student needs
  • Experience coordinating events, activities, and/or initiatives
  • Knowledge of compliance reporting such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), and/or local and federal regulations regarding higher education records and privacy
  • Experience using social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
