  • 32 hours per week-Benefit Eligible

Position Summary

Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana (OKI) is the largest of nearly sixty chapters of Make-A-Wish in the country. Even in the midst of the pandemic we granted over 750 life-changing wishes to children battling critical illnesses! We are not a last wish organization – more than 80% of our children survive and thrive and 74% of parents cite the wish experience as a turning point in their child’s fight against the illness. You will support the finance team, manage accounting records according to established standards, and provides customer service to vendors, volunteers and the general public. This isn’t the average accounting job. It is a chance to support an organization that will have lasting, positive benefits for generations of families!

Essential Job Functions You Will Perform

  • Perform accounts payable functions and ensure that vendors are paid on time and staff or volunteers are reimbursed in a timely manner.
  • Complete accounting functions such as journal entries and account reconciliations on time with appropriate support schedules. Uphold financial controls throughout the chapter, follow IRS/GAAP standards and protect organization assets by adhering to and carrying out internal controls and proper segregation of duties.
  • Assist in analyzing data in NetSuite and third-party data sources.
  • Assist in preparing support schedules related to month-end close.
  • Collect vendor W-9 data throughout the year.
  • Formulate recommendations and make decisions that follow established standards and do not financially impact the organization in substantial ways.

Qualifications We Are Seeking

  • Proven ability in an accounting or accounts payable function.
  • Associate degree or higher education required.
  • Previous nonprofit industry experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience and knowledge of financial accounting components, including but not limited to cash disbursements, accounts payable, fixed assets, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with computerized financial accounting systems. Strong PC skills with proficiency in Word and Excel. Experience with Salesforce and NetSuite software is a plus.
