Who are we looking for?

The Accounts Receivable Specialist provides support in the healthcare insurance reimbursement process, prepares outstanding accounts reports and gathers credit and/or reference information. You will be responsible for completing insurance claims in a timely and accurate manner, and will follow up on claims to clients, commercial/government payers (like Medicare or Medi-Cal), and patients to optimize overall reimbursement. You will research denials and rejections, settle payer issues, document activity, post adjustments, and demonstrate proficiency within the billing system. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting on denial trends you identify that delay claims processing. This position requires a high level of customer service and communication with both healthcare patients and customers.

How much experience are you looking for?

You may be hired as an Associate Accounts Receivable Specialist or an Accounts Receivable Specialist based on your depth of skill and breadth of experience.

What does this position pay?

Compensation is determined by several factors which may include skillset, experience level, and geographic location.

The expected range for this role is $19.00 to $22.00, hourly base compensation. Please note this range is an estimate; actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.

What will you do?

  • Research medical claim denials with healthcare insurance payers (commercial insurance companies or government payers)
  • Prepare and submit appeals
  • Identify trends when reviewing reasons insurance carriers deny medical billing claims, and work to resolve the trends with internal team members
  • Work with patients and customers to answer questions and troubleshoot claim issues
  • Ensure that documents are complete with accurate patient billing information for all services rendered
  • Review all processing errors and analyze issues, identify root causes, and escalate as appropriate following escalation workflow

What education and experience do you need?

A combination of the following education and experience factors will be considered:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D
  • 2+ years' experience directly related in medical billing, medical claims/billing environment involving negotiation and/or problem resolution
  • Ability to read and understand an EOB
  • Intermediate knowledge of government program regulations, Medicare, and other third-party payers
  • Experience with medical billing software
  • Understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Well organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Intermediate skill set with Microsoft Office Suite
