Staff Accountant | Acorns
Acorns is seeking a Staff Accountant for our Global Accounting team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and supporting streamlined closing and consolidation processes. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing journal entries, building monthly reports, tracking of budget to actual expenses, and ensuring general ledger coding is accurate and submitted timely.
Primary responsibilities include
Preparing and booking journal entries
Performing month-end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
Preparing and analyzing the monthly cash expenditures.
Preparing and analyzing monthly fluctuations in account balances.
Documenting key accounting processes and performing related accounting operation controls.
Performing other accounting and financial ad-hoc reporting as directed.
This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA, or New York, NY offices.
Within 1 month, you will:
Introduce and integrate yourself to team members
Familiarize yourself with current accounting systems and processes
Train on the preparation of journal entries and daily accounting tasks
Learn about the company’s product offerings
Learn about the fundamentals of Acorns mission and vision
Get familiar with department objectives and key results
Complete Acorns’ best-in-class onboarding, Acorns’ Seedling Program
Participate in a virtual coffee session hosted by Acorns’ CEO, Noah Kerner
Attend your first community-wide virtual all-hands meeting
Within 3 months, you will:
Create and maintain accurate accounting schedules
Develop a sound understanding of the chart of accounts and department reporting
Prioritize workloads and ensure monthly close tasks are completed timely
Analyze period fluctuations and document rationale for change
Review your 30-60-90 day goals and accomplishments with your manager
Opportunity to engage in Acorn’s Community & Heritage celebrations
Receive operational updates from our GoHenry & PixPay team members during Acorns’ quarterly global virtual all-hands session
Within 6 months, you will:
Identify anomalies in actual results and elevate to appropriate stakeholders
Gain proficiency in our accounting systems and tools, and drive process improvements
Develop and maintain periodic account risk assessments
Bring solutions to identified problems
Identify, document, and optimize key accounting processes
Support annual audits
Assist in internal control evaluations
Participate in a performance check-in as a part of our performance management cycle
What you will bring to Acorns:
Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Accounting
1+ year work experience
Competence in Microsoft excel
Experience with Google Workspace applications and ERP systems is a plus
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Exceptional drive, precision, and attention to detail
Ability to meet hard deadlines
Keen aptitude in dealing with financial and numeric data as well as analyzing data
Strong relationship building skills and ability to prioritize workloads
Thirst for delivering game-changing products

Compensation Information:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $70,000 and $75,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, equity grants, and discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
