Housing Resource & Placement Coordinator

Role Overview:

The Housing Resource Coordinator serves as a housing expert for the family emergency shelter program, focusing on identifying housing opportunities, supporting funding applications, and ensuring the rapid rehousing of families. This role involves close collaboration with shelter staff, families, and external partners to facilitate effective housing solutions while ensuring compliance with programmatic requirements.

This position requires on-site presence at the assigned emergency shelter within Massachusetts. This position might require occasional travel to various locations, such as other shelters, schools, doctors' offices, and other vendors that interact with clients. 

Responsibilities:

  • Locate apartments for shelter residents and establish partnerships with landlords and community organizations.
  • Assist families with applications for housing support programs and other financial resources.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff to evaluate and document family housing needs, considering factors such as size, location, and transportation.
  • Create and deliver housing navigation training for staff and families on topics like landlord communication and housing search expectations.
  • Be a subject matter expert, advising case managers and families on specific rehousing challenges.
  • Ensure accurate data capture and compliance with program requirements, including proper documentation and reporting.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet program needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or at minimum two years of experience working with government subsidized housing programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, required.
  • Experience with immigrant families or underserved populations, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, required.
  • Expertise in securing long-term housing solutions, with knowledge of housing-related data systems, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and diplomacy skills to navigate sensitive issues effectively.
  • Advanced problem-solving and organizational abilities to manage projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Adaptable, capable of managing competing priorities, and committed to continuous learning.
