Adjunct/ Camino Program

Manhattan College is an independent Catholic institution of higher learning that embraces all faiths, cultures, and traditions. The mission of Manhattan College is to provide a contemporary educational experience that prepares graduates for lives of personal development, professional success, civic engagement, and service to their fellow human beings. The College pursues this mission through programs integrating a broad liberal education with a concentration in specific disciplines in the arts and sciences or professional preparation in business, education, and engineering.

The Camino program is an English-supported associate degree program in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). SCPS offers various programs for learners seeking to advance their careers and fulfill their personal goals. We provide degrees, certificates, and non-degree programming in Leadership and Administration, Healthcare Professions, and General Education for ESL/ENL students. The Camino program, the first associate degree at the College, provides native Spanish-speaking students an opportunity to complete their degree while improving their English language proficiency.

The Camino Intensive Language College Pathway Program (CILCPP) is a two-week intensive language program for English as a Second Language (ESL) high school students in New York City. This language program will provide these students with opportunities to practice the English language through visits to various New York City cultural sites. The program will also help students prepare for the college application, offering workshops on financial aid, writing a college entrance essay, and finding the right program to fit academic and career interests. At the end of the program, the students will have increased proficiency in the English language and a better understanding of how and why to pursue a college degree. This program starts July 10 and ends July 21.

The perfect candidate will want to spend the first two weeks of July teaching classes of 15-17 students of varying English proficiency. Summer courses cater to the needs of students and improve their general English language skills. As the instructor, you will be able to add your own "sparkle" to the daily lesson plans, ensuring students gain essential language skills and they have fun while they are doing it. You will provide academic instruction to students through communicative English language courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and other instructional settings; Plan and organize instruction utilizing the curricula; Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment and attendance.
